Head of School
Kateri Carver-Akers, Ph.D, IMSNC.HS@GMAIL.COMKateri@languagecenternc.org
Kateri Carver-Akers knew when she was very young that she was interested in cross-cultural communication. At 12 years old, she began to teach herself French, knowing that one day she would work with languages! At 15, during her junior year of high school, she did her first immersion experience in French speaking Belgium. This experience provided her first hand knowledge of how the immersion technique works. During college and graduate school, Kateri studied in the bilingual (German and French) University of Friburg in Switzerland and at Nanterre Paris X in France. While Kateri founded IMS by lead teaching in the French immersion Montessori classroom, she has been a full time Head of School since August 2005. She trains teachers on Strategies for Montessori Language immersion Environments and gives papers and publishes in topics related to both Montessori and language immersion education.
