International Montessori School (IMS) is seeking a dedicated, creative, and organized Montessori Supplemental Programs Coordinator to lead year-round after-school and summer camp programming for our Durham Campus, serving children ages 18 months to 6 years. This full-time position blends program design, team leadership, and administrative coordination.

We are seeking an exceptional individual with a minimum of three years' experience working with young children, including toddlers and preschool-aged children, preferably in a Montessori or child-centered environment. The individual should also have at least 2 years' experience supervising adults. The ideal candidate is a warm, organized, energetic professional who thrives in multicultural environments and brings a passion for early childhood development, creative programming, and strong leadership skills.

Key Responsibilities:

• Program Planning & Leadership
• Plan and lead a nurturing, engaging after-school program that complements Montessori learning
• Develop and implement an enriching, creative, and child-centered summer camp program for children ages 18 months to 6 years
• Incorporate art, music, nature, cultural exploration, and movement into programming
• Coordinate daily and weekly schedules, ensuring a balance of free play, structured activities, and rest
• Supervision & Child Guidance
• Maintain a safe, nurturing environment aligned with Montessori practices and positive discipline
• Observe and respond to children’s needs, encouraging independence and social-emotional development
• Ensure proper supervision ratios and implement emergency procedures as needed
• Team & Staff Coordination
• Hire, train, schedule, and supervise after-school staff and seasonal staff
• Provide leadership, support, and modeling for staff and volunteers
• Foster a positive team culture focused on collaboration, communication, and respect
• Administrative & Logistical Duties
• Maintain accurate attendance, incident reports, and program documentation
• Manage supply inventories, ordering, and preparation of materials
• Oversee registration processes for both after-school and summer camp programs
• Communicate effectively with families through newsletters, in-person updates, and school communication tools
• Collaboration & School Community
• Work closely with the campus assistant head of school and teaching staff to ensure programming complements school-day experiences
• Participate in staff meetings, school events, and professional development opportunities
• Uphold and model IMS’s values of multiculturalism, inclusion, and peaceful conflict resolution

Qualifications & Requirements:

Required:

• Minimum of 3 years' experience working with young children in a group setting (ages 18 months to 6 years)
• Minimum of 2 years' experience in supervising adults
• Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills (verbal and written)
• Ability to design developmentally appropriate activities and routines
• Warm, calm, and responsive approach to child guidance
• CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain prior to start)
• Availability to work full-time, including during summer months

Preferred:

• Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field
• Experience in a Montessori or play-based educational setting
• Experience in multicultural and/or multilingual environments
• Bilingual or multilingual (Spanish, Mandarin, or French highly valued)

Work Schedule:

• Academic Year (August–June): Approximately 9:30 AM – 6:00 PM, with some flexibility depending on needs
• Summer Camp (June–July): Approximately 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM or 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM, based on program structure
• Occasional evening or weekend events (e.g., open houses, community gatherings)

IMS is seeking a nurturing, collaborative person to support our Spanish immersion early childhood classroom and co-lead one of our after-school classrooms (in English).

Employment Term

Through June 9, 2027, with an option to continue in summer camp.

Schedule

Monday- Friday 1:45 - 5:30

+ 15 minicamp days with additional hours available between 7:45 - 5:30

• Optional - substituting in the toddler classroom or in our 3-6 year old classroom as needed.

Responsibilities

• Support Spanish immersion classroom teachers and supervise the playground during the last hour of the school day, engaging students in Spanish as much as possible.
• Partner with a second after-school teacher to implement an engaging, nurturing after-school experience.
• Responsibilities in both settings:
• Ensuring the safety and well-being of each student and responding to their emotional needs through a needs-based approach and conflict-resolution practices to address incidents.
• Directly engaging with students through crafts, play, and other activities where appropriate.
• Assist with toileting, changing clothes, preparing food, and cleaning the classroom as needed.
• Build a professional rapport with colleagues and each family to provide quality care for students.

Minimum Qualifications

• Strong oral and written skills in English and Spanish
• Experience working with 3- to 6-year-old children
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
• Ability to lift 40 pounds
• Punctuality, flexibility, and a positive personality
• Strong attendance record
• Existing US work authorization
• Reliable transportation to and from work
• Experience in Montessori and the Positive Discipline approach to supporting students preferred

Summary

IMS is looking for English, French, Mandarin Chinese, and Spanish speakers who love young children, have experience with these age groups, and are interested in part-time work. 

The Position

While the specifics of each day depend on which classroom and teachers need coverage, a typical day might include:

• Assisting the lead teacher when the second classroom teacher is absent
• Supervising children during lunch, on the playground, and at nap time
• Helping children during transitional parts of the day

Hours

Hours vary depending on coverage needs, but are often in the following blocks:

• 8:00AM - 3:00PM
• 8:00AM - 12:30PM
• 10:45AM - 1:30PM
• 2:30 - 5:30PM

We have flexible work times that could be ideal for university students or parents wishing to be available for their children when they return from school. 

We will provide training in support of our language immersion and Montessori approach for qualified candidates.
